• Senior Lecturer in Astrophysics at the University of Kent, from September 2005 to February 2006
• Lecturer in Space Science at the University of Kent, from March 2001 to September 2005
• Post-doctoral research fellow at Imperial College London, from November 1995 to March 2001.
• 1992-1995: D.Phil. (Oxon), title: Quasars and Galaxies at Early Cosmic Epochs
• 1989-1992: B.Sc. first class honours in Physics, Bristol University

I am also a Fellow of the Institute of Physics, a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society and a Chartered Physicist.

I also passed the Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education. This higher education teaching qualification, equivalent to one-third of an M.Sc., was and still is a requirement for new lecturers at the University of Kent.
